Friday with a Bang!

Wow, my first week back was much more eventful than I had imagined it would be. River ended up getting sick again! I was planning on leaving today (Friday afternoon) after work to drive to Austin. Thursday about half an hour after I got off the phone with my dad, River started digging his finger in his ear saying "ear owies", and I was like oh know not again. I have set up about 4 or 5 trips to travel to Austin since June 1 and every single one of them has been cancelled due to sickness. We are not usually this sick but River started daycare in May and he picks up every cold that walks in there. Then, his colds don't just stay "colds" but turn into these ear infections/sinus/viral sicknesses. My dad has been very understanding, hopefully we will make it down there soon. Well River's fever spiked around midnight and I had to take of his pants and put him on my bed under the fan to try to bring down his body temperature. I asked him if he had ear owies and he said "ear owies, mouth owies". It made for a very long night. This morning I went straight to the doctor and he said there is some fluid in the ears although it isn't infected yet, River's throat was extremely red. It almost looked like broken blood vessels in the back of his throat and the nurse was even taken back a little when she saw it to do the culture. He is on antibiotics and is feeling much better. And it is really really nice for River to be able to tell me what hurts on him. Our new friend Megan took care of him for which I am extremely grateful. I really needed to work in my classroom to get it ready for the first day of school. I am not totally done with everything but I don't have too much more to do.

Kindergarten Update:

Dawson's teacher is Mrs. Scarbrough, and she is the team leader for Kindergarten. I was able to bring Dawson to his school and meet his teacher individually before all the masses got there. She is really nice and Dawson really liked the classroom and her. He is almost as tall as her! I am so excited that he is in her class. He can't wait for Monday. His school is rated Exemplary, while I know that the ratings don't always mean too much, as a teacher they are important to me. I know that the best teachers usually want to teach at the highly rated schools and I am optimistic about the growth we will see from Dawson as he begins "real school". I'll post pictures on Monday.
